We are memor, a duo devoted to the performance of early monophonic song. We are excited as much by the poetic and rhetorical intricacy of medieval lyric as by its musical substance. Striving to convey the timelessness and immediacy of the medieval poet’s conviction, emotion, and imagination, we invite our audiences to hear in this music both the echoes of a former world and the resonances of our own times.
We were awarded the Jury Prize at the International Van Wassenaer Competition of the 2023 Utrecht Early Music Festival. We have performed in various festivals, including Klangraum Dobra (AT), Erasmus Klingt (CH), and Montalbâne (DE), and future performances include a concert in the Laus Polyphoniae festival at AMUZ (BE). Individually – and at times together – we have performed in an array of medieval ensembles, including Per-Sonat (DE), Dialogos (FR), Sollazzo (FR), Ensemble Parlamento (CH), Rubens Rosa (CH), Contre le Temps (FR), and Trobár (USA), and in festivals and series such as ReRenaissance Basel (CH), Freunde Alter Musik Basel (CH), AMUZ (BE), and Utrecht Oude Muziek Seizon (NL). We are based in Basel, Switzerland.
